This is pretty straight forward, most powerful production cars from each country. I set the bar at 20 road going examples of each model to weed out any sketchy cars (Hennessy, Caparo). This would still probably allow base models of Koenigseggs and Paganis, but not their plentiful special editions.

Really at the end of the day Germany should win. They own Bugatti, Lambo and even provide power for Pagani.. pool them under the right country and Boom Germany is looking like the real winner.

What was your cut-off point for each country's list? Just picked the top 7 most powerful for each country?
I ask, because some of these countries' bottom ends are the top ends for others. I'm also curious about why the GT-R gets to show up 4 times on the Japan list, but the Charger and Challenger Hellcats are lumped together.

I know you wanted to weed out any sketchy cars like SSC, but firstly you forgot the P85+ tesla model S with 691 hp, and for a while SSC areo did hold the production car speed record (which means there must be at least 30 cars sold according the Guinness) and the ssc areo had 1287 bhp
![]() 04/09/2015 at 14:30 |

Bugatti being French is a stretch. French up until the 50s. Italian in the 80s, and now German.

5 is too few for countries with a lot of powerful cars, 10 is too many for boring countries. The Challenger and Charger are tied at first with the same power rating, the GTR has had several power ratings. Wasn't sure where to draw the line with power increases, I mostly ignored power differences of <10hp (ex Viper going from 640 to 645 or GTR going from 480 to 485)

Well I'd argue that since Bugatti owned by VAG, they're German. I guess that goes for Lambo too, although I think their roots are still there. But more than half of their engines are made in VAG plants in Germany.

I know it's a Trailblazer, I know everything, and still... I want it. I don't even like the interior all that much. But if money wasn't an issue, I'd get it, just to have a 390hp Saab SUV that leaves people at the stoplight bewilderedly scratching their heads and go "Did I just see a Saab SUV jump into hyperspace?"

Fair enough. It suppose I would've only counted the GT-R and GT-R Nismo, since they are two trims while the two older ones are just older versions of the same generation.

Canada (most powerful variants of each):

3. (tie) Asuna SE/GT - 96 HP

It only says one thing about France, really: that there's been heavy taxes on engine displacement since the 70's. But frankly, I don't really see the point of 400+ horsepower in family sedans or wagons, these are not cars you take to the track, and we don't have unrestricted motorways anyway.
![]() 04/09/2015 at 14:49 |

![]() 04/09/2015 at 14:51 |

Yep. It's not like Bentley or Rolls-Royce where German brands bought an existing carmaker. The modern Bugatti was built from scratch by VW, only the final assembly is done in France.

I don't get that. If RUFs don't count as Porsches, the Venom shouldn't count as a tuned Lotus. Then again, maybe RUFs should count as tuned Porsches.

I would include The Netherlands with Spyker. Just because they look great and that interior is amazing. Would've included performance figures but that is annoying to look up on my phone. There is another 500 something bhp former university startup company that is quite cool. Don't forget the insane Donkervoort. You should be able to get at least an interesting top 5.
